In 1971, Porsche uniquely redesigned the wheel arches of the 917 race car to challenge speeds of 400 km/h on the Le Mans circuit, making them more rounded. At the same time, the wheels were recessed into the arches to reduce air turbulence, thereby lowering aerodynamic drag. Additionally, the front end of the 917 was designed to be flatter.

When the owner of our sponsor Martini saw the race car, he joked, “It looks like a fat pig,” and refused to have Martini’s branding applied to it. In response, the Germans showcased their sense of humor by painting the 917 in pink and drawing red dashed lines on the body to mimic the cutting lines on pork. And thus, the “Pink Pig” was born!

The dashed lines on the controller are applied using pad printing technology. Although it may seem simple, the process requires 33 repeated printing passes. Pad printing demands extremely high standards for ink quality, machine precision, and operator technique—each pass carries an extra risk of wastage.

The most challenging part was ensuring that the dashed lines seamlessly connect between the front and rear shells; we wanted the entire controller’s dashed line to be continuous. We consulted about ten different production facilities and spent four months on sample testing. Ultimately, only the oldest and most experienced factory was willing to take on the challenge, which allowed us to capture the true essence of what the Pink Pig controller should be.

As we mentioned earlier – ‘it looks like a fat pig’ – we decided to create a little pink pig. That’s exactly why we chose the 917’s color scheme for our limited edition.

Press and hold the “⑥ T button”, “⑤ + button”, and “③ - button” simultaneously for 2
seconds. When the “④ HOME button” flashes red 4 times, it indicates that the center
dead zone mode has been successfully turned off.
To restore the center dead zone settings, press the three buttons again simultaneously.
When the “④ HOME button” flashes blue quickly 4 times, it indicates that the original
settings have been restored.
